Dark Matter Lives! presents a live experimental hip hop performance built
through electronic instruments, looping, and freestyle rap.
Beats and textures are assembled and reshaped in real time, while vocals
are delivered fully improvised. Performances emphasize transformation and flow rather
than fixed arrangements, with sound elements continually evolving throughout the set.
Each performance is shaped by the moment, allowing structure to emerge organically
through live interaction between performers and technology.

The core performance system is built around multiple Korg Kaoss devices. A Korg Kaoss Pad 3 is used for real-time effects, transitions, and signal manipulation, while the Kaossilator Pro provides melodic, bass, and textural elements.

A Korg Kaoss Quad expands the system with additional effects chains, allowing multiple layers of sound to be shaped simultaneously during performance. Beat structures are captured, layered, and reconfigured live using a Boss RC-505 loop station. Elements are introduced, altered, muted, and reintroduced as the performance unfolds, emphasizing process and transformation over static song forms.
Additional sound sources and processing are generated through an iPad Pro running assorted music applications, used for synthesis, sampling, and experimental sound design. A Korg MIDI keyboard provides tactile melodic control, while an Arturia audio interface manages signal flow across the system.

Vocal processing is handled in real time using a TC Helicon VoiceLive 3, allowing effects, harmonies, and transformations to function as part of the live performance rather than post-production enhancements.

Performances are recorded and archived using a MacBook Pro running GarageBand, capturing each session as it happens. Dark Matter Lives! operates at the intersection of underground hip hop and live electronic music, emphasizing presence, responsiveness, and the creative tension between structure and improvisation.
